Karla Johnson is a Senior Staff Attorney with the Kinship Caregiver Law Project at the New York City-based civil legal services organization, Mobilization for Justice (MFJ). She has spent the last 3 years representing grandparents, siblings, aunts/uncles and fictive kin in custody, guardianship, and foster care cases. She also represents clients in special immigrant juvenile and adoption matters. Prior to her work in kinship care, she practiced in MFJ's special education law group for about 6 years. 

Karla is a 2006 graduate of Smith College where she earned her BA in psychology. Karla earned her Master of Public Health in Health Behavior and Health Education from the University of Michigan School of Public Health in 2014 along with her JD from the University of Michigan Law School that same year. 

Karla is a 2016 Shriver Center on Poverty Law Racial Justice Institute Fellow. Post-fellowship, she also helped spearhead diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts within MJF.
